Jim Probert, Ph.D.

Jim Probert is a psychologist who has worked full-time as a mental health professional since 1996. He is also an individual who has reclaimed his life–after falling into madness, and surviving the impacts of involuntary hospitalizations, in the early 1980s. Since 2010, Jim has been providing human rights-based professional onboarding seminars to trainees and new clinical staff members in a mainstream mental health agency. Since 2015, he has also been facilitating peer support groups –including Intentional Peer Support, Wellness Recovery Action Plan, and Experiential Peer Support—a group supporting individuals having the full range of experiences acknowledged as human rights under the umbrella of the hearing voices movement. This work is introduced in Jim’s 2021 Community Mental Health Journal article, “Moving Toward a Human Rights Approach to Mental Health.”
