Fredrick Vars, J.D.

Fredrick Vars is a professor at the University of Alabama School of Law, where he has taught mental health law since 2008. Professor Vars is the originator of Donna’s Law, a voluntary suicide prevention measure that has been enacted in five states. His interest in mental health began with and is informed by his own diagnosis with Bipolar I Disorder. Professor Vars has published in top journals including the Yale Law Journal and the New England Journal of Medicine. Through the Fire is his second book and first devoted entirely to mental health.
