Oscar Daniel Lopez, J.D.

Oscar Daniel Lopez is a Senior Staff Attorney in the Mental Health Practice Group (MHPG) at Disability Rights California (DRC). The MHPG works to increase community mental health treatment and housing for individuals to avoid unnecessary institutionalization or homelessness. Prior to joining DRC, Oscar was the Interim Director of the Education Advocacy Clinic at the East Bay Community Law Center (EBCLC), a partnership with University of California Berkeley School of Law. The Education Advocacy Clinic advocates for students, primarily youth of color with disabilities, who are pushed out of school and into the juvenile legal system. Oscar also partnered with grassroots community organizers to dismantle the school-to-prison pipeline through local policy and statewide legislative efforts. He previously worked at Public Counsel in California and Advancement Project in Washington, DC, where he served as a Skadden Fellow. Oscar is a graduate of UCLA and Columbia Law School.
