Janice Perciano served as an Advocate with the Oregon Advocacy Center since 1988 and as Coordinator of the PAIMI (Protection and Advocacy for Individuals with Mental Illness) program for the past twelve years. In this client directed program she advocated for the expressed wishes of clients, meeting wherever they wanted; giving support in investigations of alleged abuse, neglect, death and all personal rights violations. She has presented in numerous workshops and seminars on mental health issues and client rights. She also designed and implemented two training courses on "The Ethics of Advocacy" designed to teach consumers how to advocate for themselves, navigate systems and know when and how to ask for help. She is co-author with Lyn Blackshaw and Andrea Levy of "Listening to High Utilizers: Recognizing, responding to and recovering from trauma".
