Responding to State Threats to Mental Health Rights - A Roundtable Discussion

Aaryce Hayes, LCSW & Virginia Knowlton Marcus, Esq.

This roundtable seeks to explore trends diminishing mental health rights across states and strategies to combat those trends. We ask NARPA participants to lay the groundwork for the roundtable by sharing information (before the conference if possible) about current mental health policies and proposals in your states. We hope to identify common threats and successful efforts to defend mental health rights, and to explore creative responses participants can use and share to fight for the rights of people with mental health and substance use disabilities.

If you plan to participate in this roundtable, please send information about mental health policy concerns in your state to Aaryce Hayes ( and Virginia Knowlton Marcus ( by August 15, 2023. We will incorporate information we receive into our discussion
