Cultural Competency and Legal Advocates: Creating Trusting and Effective Client Relationships

A common issue/concern clients have about the legal process is whether or not they can trust their legal advocates. In this discussion we will explore one way to address this concern – legal advocates can strengthen and improve relationships with clients through a multicultural and culturally competent approach. We will examine a history of oppressed/marginalized communities and barriers to legal resources. We will also discuss what legal professionals can learn from other professional disciplines about how to create safe and supportive client relationships.
