Transgender, non-binary, and gender non-conforming communities are on the rise, as is trans-antagonism. Transgender people make up a disproportionate number of those experiencing trauma and targeted by psychiatry. Please join the conversation on how to respect trans identities and become familiar with interpersonal and systemic challenges facing trans people today. Facilitated by members of the Western Mass Recovery Learning Community.
Goals:
-Increase respect and understanding for trans, non-binary, and gender non-conforming identities and culture
-Increase capacity to fight oppression of trans people
Objectives:
-Cover ‘101’ information about transgender identities and appropriate allyship.
-Review specific challenges faced by transgender people in the psychiatric system
-Report on policy issues presently impacting transgender people.
