[Voting Rights for Persons with Mental Disabilities]

In this presentation, attorney Lewis Bossing of the Bazelon Center for Mental Health Law will discuss the voting rights of people with mental disabilities, including the rights of persons under guardianship.  Lewis will survey state laws on voter competence requirements, legal challenges to voting, and federal laws that protect persons with disabilities from being denied the right to vote.  He will also discuss what election officials must do to assist voters with mental disabilities.  Lewis will also review the federal government's recent efforts to enforce the Americans with Disabilities Act to protect voters with mental disabilities.
