[ Promoting and Developing [Crisis]{} [Alternatives]{}: A Strategy Session > [ Matthew Cohen >
[ Much of the work we do in the consumer/survivor/ex-patient movement is currently under attack. Critics say our movement just helps the “worried well,” that we are not reaching people who have the most severe issues or the most intense crises. In this highly interactive workshop we will review existing crisis alternatives and share strategies of how we can both promote what is already working and create new, grassroots alternatives. >
[ Learning objectives include:][
[ 1. An overview of existing crisis alternatives including Peer-run Respites, Soteria, Open Dialogue, Alternatives to Suicide, and Emotional CPR.][[
][ [ 2. An exploration of techniques to promote existing crisis alternatives including grassroots organizing, storytelling, film, and social media.][[
][ [ 3. Developing a strategy that focuses our energies on creating more crisis alternatives designed to reach people who are suicidal and/or who have the most intense crises. >
