Michael E. Recco is a civil rights attorney and disability rights advocate. He has extensive experience advocating and litigating on behalf of individuals living with mental disabilities, including representing individuals in proceedings for involuntary civil commitment, treatment over objection, guardianship, and civil confinement. He is admitted to practice law in New York State and currently works as an attorney with the Special Litigation & Appeals Unit of the Mental Hygiene Legal Service, Appellate Division, Second Judicial Department. Mr. Recco has also worked as a staff attorney with Touro Law Center’s Civil Rights Litigation Clinic and served as an advocate with Disability Rights Texas. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Journalism & Mass Communication from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and his Juris Doctor from the University of Miami School of Law, where he had the honor and privilege of being Professor Susan Stefan’s student.
