Maya Kotob, LLB, LLM

Maya Kotob studied at University of Manchester, UK, where she completed her Law Degree and her Masters in Healthcare Law and Ethics. Her Masters thesis focused on Mental Health Law, particularly on the role of risk in justifying the powers of mental health confinement. As a student with Anita Szigeti advocates, Maya assisted in preparing for complex Coroner’s Inquests and appeal files. Maya was called to the Bar in Ontario in 2018 and is currently an associate at Anita Szigeti Advocates. She appears regularly before the Consent and Capacity Board and Ontario Review Board, and also argues appeals to the Superior Court of Justice and Court of Appeal. Maya has a passion for teaching – she has taught families of individuals with mental health issues how to navigate the mental health system in Ontario, and also had the privilege of teaching ‘culturally competent adjudication’ to tribunal adjudicators.
