Jennifer Honig, J.D.

Jennifer Honig is Senior Attorney for the Mental Health Legal Advisors Committee of the Supreme Judicial Court, Massachusetts. She pursues individual and class action litigation in state and federal courts, and through administrative hearing processes, including those of the Department of Mental Health, Department of Developmental Services, Bureau of Special Education Appeals, and the Social Security Administration. She developed and organized trainings for attorneys on substance abuse treatment of people with mental health issues and on th)e criminalization of youth in institutional settings. Ms. Honig established and directed the DYS Project, a legal advocacy program to advise and represent youth involved with the Massachusetts Department of Youth Services, particularly on mental health and education matters. She propelled and participated in substantial reform of Massachusetts civil commitment law, including through publication of the article “An Unexpected Admission” (1996). She also provides legal support to consumer advocacy groups.
